The interrogative sentence with “是不是”

 

“是不是” can be used to raise a question for further confirmation. Usually, the speaker has had a guess or estimation of a certain fact or situation already. “是不是” can be put at the beginning of a sentence.

是不是 + Subject + Predicate ?

e.g.

是不是你买的这本书?(Shì búshì nǐ mǎi de zhè běn shū?) Did you buy this book?

是不是张老师找我?(Shì búshì Zhāng lǎoshī zhǎo wǒ?) Is Teacher Zhang looking for me?

 

“是不是” can be put at the end of a sentence.

Subject + Predicate + 是不是 ?

e.g.

明天放假,是不是?(Míngtiān fàngjià, shì búshì?) It’s a holiday tomorrow, isn’t it?

你又帮了他,是不是?(Nǐ yòu bāngle tā, shì búshì?) You helped him again, didn’t you?

 

“是不是” can also be put between the subject and the predicate.

Subject + 是不是 + Predicate ?

e.g.

你的男朋友是不是很帅?(Nǐ de nán péngyǒu shì búshì hěn shuài?) Is your boyfriend handsome?

昨天你是不是吃了火锅?(Zuótiān nǐ shì búshì chīle huǒguō?) Did you eat hot pot yesterday?

1. 你们去不去过中国?(Nǐmen qù bú qùguò Zhōngguó?)
2. 是不是你吃了面条吗?(Shì bú shì nǐ chīle miàntiáo ma?)
