Affirmative-negative Question

An affirmative-negative question contains the affirmative and negative forms of the predicate, which are juxtaposed.

Note that “吗” can’t be added at the end of this affirmative-negative question.

1. Subject + Adjective + 不 + Adjective

e.g.

你家离学校远不远？(Nǐ jiā lí xuéxiào yuǎn bù yuǎn?) Is your home far from the school?

你的咖啡热不热？(Nǐ de kāfēi rè bú rè?) Is your coffee hot?

你的新衣服贵不贵？(Nǐ de xīn yīfú guì bú guì?) Are your new clothes expensive?

孩子们今天高兴不高兴？(Háizimen jīntiān gāoxìng bù gāoxìng?) Are the children happy today?

2. Subject + Verb + 不/没 + Verb …… ？

e.g.

我们明天打不打球？(Wǒmen míngtiān dǎ bù dǎqiú?) Are we going to play tomorrow?

昨天你去没去学校？(Zuótiān nǐ qù méi qù xuéxiào?) Did you go to school yesterday?

你起床没起床？快迟到了！(Nǐ qǐchuáng méi qǐchuáng?) Did you get up or not? It’s almost late!

你现在回不回家？(Kuài chídàole! Nǐ xiànzài huí bù huí jiā?) Are you going home now?

 

3. Subject + Adjective / Verb + 了 + 没有？

e.g.

你睡觉了没有？(Nǐ shuìjiàole méiyǒu?) Are you asleep yet?

你们吃饭了没有？(Nǐmen chīfànle méiyǒu?) Have you eaten yet?

同学们饿了没有？(Tóngxuémen èle méiyǒu?) Are the students hungry?

学习了一天，你累了没有？(Xuéxíle yītiān, nǐ lèile méiyǒu?) Are you tired after a day of study?
