早晚(zǎowǎn)

As a noun

早晚 means “morning and evening.” It’s commonly used to indicate doing the same thing in both the morning and the evening.

e.g.

我每天早晚都会运动。(Wǒ měitiān zǎowǎn dōu huì yùndòng.) I exercise every morning and evening.

医生说这盒药得早晚各吃一粒。(Yīshēng shuō zhè hé yào děi zǎowǎn gè chī yī lì.) The doctor said I should take one pill from this box each morning and evening.

我们中午见面吧，早晚我没空。(Wǒmen zhōngwǔ jiànmiàn ba, zǎowǎn wǒ méi kòng.) Let’s meet at noon; I’m not free in the morning or evening.

 

As an adverb

早晚 is essentially equivalent to 迟早, meaning “sooner or later.” It indicates that there will be a result at last. And it’s often used with words like “会”“要”“得(děi)”.

Subject + 早晚 + Verb phrase

e.g.

你这么赌下去，早晚会倾家荡产的。(Nǐ zhème dǔ xiàqù, zǎowǎn huì qīngjiā dàngchǎn de.) If you keep gambling like this, you will go bankrupt sooner or later.

她那么能干，那么聪明，早晚会成功的。(Tā nàme nénggàn, nàme cōngmíng, zǎowǎn huì chénggōng de.) She is so capable and smart; she will succeed sooner or later.

你们天天吵架，早晚得离婚。(Nǐmen tiāntiān chǎojià, zǎowǎn děi líhūn.) If you argue every day, you will end up divorcing sooner or later.

买这里的房子，他们早晚得哭。(Mǎi zhèlǐ de fángzi, tāmen zǎowǎn děi kū.) Buying a house here, they will regret it sooner or later.

即使是亲兄弟，也早晚要各自成家。(Jíshǐ shì qīn xiōngdì, yě zǎowǎn yào gèzì chéngjiā.) Even brothers will have to start their own families sooner or later.

孩子早晚要离开父母。(Háizi zǎowǎn yào líkāi fùmǔ.) Children will have to leave their parents sooner or later.

早晚 + Subject + Verb phrase

e.g.

早晚你会明白老师的苦心。(Zǎowǎn nǐ huì míngbái lǎoshī de kǔxīn.) Sooner or later, you will understand the teacher’s painstaking efforts.

早晚我会考过HSK六级的。(Zǎowǎn wǒ huì kǎoguò HSK liùjí de.) Sooner or later, I will pass the HSK level six.

早晚他们都要见面的，不要再阻止他们了。(Zǎowǎn tāmen dōu yào jiànmiàn de, bùyào zài zǔzhǐ tāmen le.) They have to meet sooner or later, stop stopping them.

Note that 早晚 is not commonly used in a question, but rather in statements.
