一点儿 vs 有点儿

 

一点儿(yì diǎnr)

As a quantifier, “一点儿” has the grammatical features of a quantifier.

 

  1. “一点儿 + noun” is used to indicate a small quantity.

e.g.

我喝了一点儿。(Wǒ hēle yìdiǎnr shuǐ.) I drank a little water.

你能给我一点儿吗?(Nǐ néng gěi wǒ yìdiǎnr qián ma?) Can you give me some money?

快,多吃一点儿!(Kuài, duō chī yìdiǎnr fàn!) Hurry up, eat more food!

  1. “Adjective + 一点儿”, here 一点儿 is used after an adjective to explain it. In this structure, “一” is often omitted. Note that 一点儿 doesn’t precede an adjective.

e.g.

这个能便宜(一)点儿吗?(Zhège néng piányi yìdiǎn er ma?) Can this be cheaper?

他比我(一)点儿。(Tā bǐ wǒ gāo yìdiǎnr.) He is a little taller than me.

别哭了,开心(一)点儿。(Bié kūle, kāixīn yìdiǎnr.) Stop crying, be happy.

  1. The complete negation: “一点儿也不” or “一点儿也没”

 

  • 一点儿也不 + Adjective. / Verb

e.g.

一点儿也不高兴。(Wǒ yìdiǎnr yě bù gāoxìng.) I’m not happy at all.

一点儿也不知道。(Wǒ yìdiǎnr yě bù zhīdào.) I don’t know at all.

东西一点儿也不。(Dōngxi yìdiǎnr yě bù duō.) There is not much stuff at all.

  • Verb + 得 + 一点儿也不 + Adjective.

e.g.

你说得一点儿也不。(Nǐ shuō de yìdiǎnr yě búduì.) You are not right at all.

这件衣服洗得一点儿也不干净。(Zhè jiàn yìfú xǐ de yìdiǎnr yě bù gānjìng.) The clothes are not clean at all.

他的汉字写得一点儿也不。(Tā de hànzì xiě de yìdiǎnr yě bù hǎo.) His Chinese characters are not good at all.

  • 一点儿也没 + Verb

e.g.

这个电影我一点儿也没。(Zhège diànyǐng wǒ yìdiǎnr yě méi kàn.) I haven’t watched this movie at all.

时间我一点儿也没。(Shíjiān wǒ yìdiǎnr yě méi huā.) I didn’t spend any time.

我的钱一点儿也没。(Wǒ de qián yìdiǎnr yě méi yòng.) My money is not spent at all.

有点儿 (yǒu diǎnr)

“有点儿” is the abbreviated form of “有一点儿”. “有点儿” is an adverbial phrase that is used to modify a verb or an adjective following it.

 

  1. “有点儿 + Adjective”, indicates the speaker’s dissatisfaction.

e.g.

这个东西有点儿。(Zhège dōngxi yǒu diǎnr guì.) This thing is a bit expensive.

有点儿。(Tā yǒu diǎnr màn.) He is a bit slow.

这本书有点儿奇怪。(Zhè běn shū yǒudiǎnr qíguài.) This book is a bit strange.

  1. “有点儿 + verb”, here the verb is often mental or psychological related.

e.g.

有点儿你。(Wǒ yǒu diǎnr xiǎng nǐ.) I miss you a little bit.

大家有点儿讨厌这个人。(Dàjiā yǒudiǎnr tǎoyàn zhège rén.) Everyone hates this person a little bit.

老师有点儿不满意你的回答。(Lǎoshī yǒudiǎnr bù mǎnyì nǐ de huídá.) The teacher is a little dissatisfied with your answer.
