The Quantitative Complement (1) – 数量补语

 

The Quantitative Complement is also called the complement of quantity, which indicates the frequency, quantity, or duration of an action or state. Here we mainly talk about the frequency or quantity of an action or state.

Verb / Adjective + Quantitative complement

 

1. The quantitative complement is the frequency complement without an object, such as “一次” “一下” “一口” “一趟”, etc.

Verb + Frequency complement

e.g.

北京我两次。(Bĕijīng wŏ qù guò liăng cì.) I have been to Beijing twice.

你太累了,快休息一下吧!(Nǐ tài lèile, kuài xiūxi yīxià ba!) You are too tired, take a break!

2. The quantitative complement is the quantity, such as “x岁” “一点” “一些” and etc.

Adjective + Quantity complement

e.g.

我比哥哥三岁。(Wǒ bǐ gēge xiǎo sānsuì.) I am three years younger than my brother.

冬天北京很冷,上海暖和一点儿。(Dōngtiān Běijīng hěn lěng, Shànghǎi nuǎnhuo yīdiǎn er.) Beijing is very cold in winter, and Shanghai is a little warmer.

他的汉语比我一些。(Tā de hànyǔ bǐ wǒ hǎo yīxiē.) His Chinese is better than mine.

1. 中国我去过 ___。(Wǒ qùɡuo Zhōnɡɡuó ___.)
