The Degree Complement (程度补语) is used to intensify or modify the degree or the state of the predicate.
1. The adjective or mental verb often follows the adjective about the degree, such as 不得了(bùdéliǎo), 厉害 or 慌, which indicates an extremely high degree. These words are more often used in oral Chinese.
Adjective + 得 + 不得了 / 慌 / 厉害/ 要命 / 不行了
e.g.
这件衣服贵得不得了。(Zhè jiàn yīfu guì de bùdéliǎo.) This dress is extremely expensive.
这个领导讲话夸张得厉害。(Zhège lǐngdǎo jiǎnghuà kuāzhāng de lìhài.) The leader’s speech was too exaggerated.
所有工作都结束了，反而有点儿闲得慌。(Suǒyǒu gōngzuò dōu jiéshùle, fǎn’ér yǒudiǎnr xián de huāng.) All the work is over, but feeling a little too idle.
Mental verb + 得 + 不得了 / 慌 / 厉害 / 要命 / 不行了
The mental verb can be 喜欢，讨厌，恨，困，急，愁，气，想……
e.g.
这件衣服他喜欢得不得了。(Zhè jiàn yīfu tā xǐhuān de bùdéliǎo.) He likes this dress so much.
很久没回家了，我想家想得厉害。(Hěnjiǔ méi huíjiā le, wǒ xiǎng jiā xiǎng de lìhài.) It’s been a long time since I went home, I miss home very much.
孩子那么晚还没回家，父母都担心得慌。(Háizi nàme wǎn hái méi huí jiā, fùmǔ dōu dānxīn de huāng.) The parents were so worried that the child had not returned home so late.
Note that if the verb of a sentence is followed by an object, the verb must be repeated after the object.
Verb + object + Verb + 得 + 不得了 / 慌 / 厉害 / 要命 / 不行了
e.g.
他喜欢汉语喜欢得不得了。(Tā xǐhuān Hànyǔ xǐhuān de bùdéliǎo.) He likes Chinese very much.
她恨她的前男友恨得要命。(Tā hèn tā de qián nányǒu hèn de yàomìng.) She hated her ex-boyfriend terribly.
我想孩子想得不行了。(Wǒ xiǎng háizi xiǎng de bùxíngle.) I missed my kid terribly.
2. The words like坏，透，死 can follow the verb or adjective to indicate a very high degree.
Verb / Adjective + 坏 / 透 / 死 + 了
e.g.
他被孩子们伤透了心。(Tā bèi háizimen shāng tòule xīn.) He was heartbroken by the children.
求婚成功，他激动坏了。(Qiúhūn chénggōng, tā jīdòng huàile.) The proposal was successful, and he was so excited.
女朋友想分手，他的心情糟糕透了。(Nǚ péngyǒu xiǎng fēnshǒu, tā de xīnqíng zāogāo tòule.) His girlfriend wanted to break up, and he was in a bad mood.
他戴了一整天口罩，憋坏了。(Tā dàile yī zhěng tiān kǒuzhào, biē huàile.) He wore a mask all day, and he was suffocated.
