及时(jíshí) vs 按时(ànshí)

 

及时

As an adjective, 及时 means timely, promptly. It indicates that something happens seasonably and without delay.

 

Adverb + 及时

e.g.

这场雨及时了!(Zhè chǎng yǔ tài jíshí le!) The rain is too timely!

 

Verb + 得 + 及时

e.g.

这场雨下得及时了。(Zhè chǎng yǔ xià dé tài jíshí le.) The rain fell too timely.

来得及时,我们正在讨论你的问题。(Nǐ lái de hěn jíshí, wǒmen zhèngzài tǎolùn nǐ de wèntí.) You came in time, and we are discussing your question.

 

及时 + 地 + Verb

e.g.

及时说出你的想法。(Qǐng jíshí de shuō chū nǐ de xiǎngfǎ.) Please state your thoughts in time.

他们正要打架,老师及时赶来了。(Tāmen zhèng yào dǎjià, lǎoshī jíshí de gǎn lái le.) They were about to fight when the teacher arrived in time.

 

As an adverb

及时 + Verb

e.g.

有问题就要及时解决。(Yǒu wèntí jiù yào jíshí jiějué.) If there is any problem, it must be solved in time.

大家及时扑灭了大火。(Dàjiā jíshí pūmiè le dàhuǒ.) Everyone put out the fire in time.

 

按时

As an adverb, 按时 means on time, on schedule. It indicates that something has been done as the requested deadline or regulation.

按时 + verb

e.g.

这个公司从不按时下班,每天都加班。(Zhège gōngsī cóng bù ànshí xiàbān, měitiān dōu jiābān.) This company never leaves work on time and works overtime every day.

妈妈要求我每天按时回家。(Māma yāoqiú wǒ měitiān ànshí huí jiā.) My mother asked me to go home on time every day.

你要好好休息,按时吃药。(Nǐ yào hǎohǎo xiūxi, ànshí chī yào.) You should rest well and take medicine on time.
