Account & Billing

No account is required if you only want to use the free features. You can start using MandarinBean right away. If you purchase Premium, you will need an account to unlock more features and track your learning progress.

We currently accept Credit Card (via Creem.io), PayPal, WeChat Pay, and Alipay.

Yes. You can log in to your account on different devices, such as your computer, tablet, or phone. However, only one active session at a time is allowed.

No. MandarinBean Premium is not a subscription, so it will not renew automatically after it expires.

Reading Lessons

You can switch between Simplified and Traditional Chinese using the toggle at the top of the lesson page.

You can show or hide pinyin using the toggle at the top of the lesson page.

You can adjust the spacing using the toggle at the top of the lesson page.

Yes. All lessons provide downloadable audio so you can listen offline.

Simply hover your mouse over a Chinese word, and a popup will appear with the meaning and pronunciation.

Yes. Every lesson includes a full English translation. (Premium feature)

Yes. All lessons include a downloadable PDF version. (Premium feature)

Yes. Each lesson includes reading comprehension exercises to help you check your understanding. (Premium feature)

After finishing a reading lesson, click “Mark Complete” at the bottom of the page.

Then, on the search page, use the Read filter to view the lessons you have already completed.

Grammar Section

Each grammar point includes a clear grammar explanation and practice exercises. Most grammar points also come with a video lesson for extra support.

Not at the moment. Grammar videos are available for online viewing only and cannot be downloaded.

Test Preparation

MandarinBean offers practice tests and exercises to help learners prepare for Chinese exams such as HSK and YCT.

Right now, MandarinBean is available as a web platform only. We may develop an app version in the future.

At the moment, MandarinBean is still using HSK 2.0. Since HSK 3.0 has not been fully implemented yet, we will continue using HSK 2.0 for now. Once HSK 3.0 becomes the official standard, we will quickly update our content to match the new standard.

Yes. We continue to add new lessons, exercises, and learning materials on a regular basis.
