Classifiers (7) – 量词 (7)

Nominal Classifiers

餐 (cān)

餐 is a measure word for a regular meal.

e.g.

饭 (yī cān fàn) A meal

一日三 (yī rì sān cān) three meals a day

你太忙了,和你一起吃一饭不容易。(Nǐ tài mángle, hé nǐ yīqǐ chī yī cān fàn bù róngyì.) You are too busy to have a meal with you.

 

串 (chuàn)

串 is a measure word for things in brunch.

e.g.

钥匙 (yī chuàn yàoshi) A brunch of keys

葡萄(sān chuàn pútao)Three brunches of grapes

烤肉 (wǔ chuàn kǎoròu) Five brunches of roasted meant

 

滴 (dī)

滴 is a measure word for water or any other liquid, meaning “drop”.

e.g.

水 (yī dī shuǐ) A drop of water

眼泪 (yī dī yǎnlèi) A drop of tear

血 (yī dī xiě) A drop of blood

汗 (yī dīhàn) A drop of sweat

 

副 (fù)

副 is a measure word for things in pairs or used as the measure word for facial expressions.

e.g.

手套 (yīfù shǒutào) A pair of gloves

眼镜 (yīfù yǎnjìng) A pair of glasses

笑脸 (yī fù xiàoliǎn) A smiling face

 

股 (gǔ)

股 is a measure word for things in strip and is used as the measure word for gas, odor, and strength.

e.g.

毛线 (liǎnɡ gǔ máoxiàn) Two plies of wollen

泉水 (yīgǔ quánshuǐ) A stream of spring water

热情 (yīgǔ rèqíng) A spell of enthusiasm

新鲜空气 (yīgǔ xīnxiān kōngqì) A whiff of fresh air

劲 (yīgǔ jìn) A burst of energy

 

集 (jí)

集 is a measure word for series book and TV series.

e.g.

电视剧 (yījí diànshìjù) A episode of TV series

我能看看这本书的全吗? (Wǒ néng kànkan zhè běn shū de quán jí ma?) Can I have a look at the whole series of the book?

 

枝(zhī)

枝 is a measure word for the blooms with branch and for the things of rod shape.

e.g.

梅花 (yīzhīméihuā) A branch of plum blossom

笔 (yīzhībǐ) A pen

步枪 (yīzhībùqiāng) A rifle

 

Verbal Classifiers

番 (fān)

番 is a measure word for times, meaning “a turn, a time or a course”.

e.g.

好意 (yīfān hǎoyì) Such a show of hospitality

五次 (sān fān wǔ cì) Many times

别有一天地 (bié yǒu yì fān tiāndì) An entirely different scene

 

声 (shēng)

声is a measure word for the times of sound making.

e.g.

炮响 (yī shēng pào xiǎng) A bang of a canon

喊了他两 (wǒ hǎn le tā liǎnɡ shēng.) I called him twice

院子里传来几猫叫。(Yuànzi lǐ chuán lái jǐ shēng māo jiào.) There were some cat meows in the yard.

 

趟 (tàng)

趟is a measure word for times of moving. It usually includes the actions of “going out” and “coming back”.

e.g.

走一 (zǒu yītàng) Go over once

去过好几 (qù guò hǎo jǐ tàng) Have made several trips

坐下一车 (zuò xià yītàng chē) Take the next bus
